The PAXDirect option allows the LinkPOS iPad app to communicate directly with the BroadPOS payment app on the PAX.
With this option enabled you no longer use the LinkPOS app on the PAX device.
The BroadPOS app on the PAX device needs to be configured to enable PAXDirect
- External POS
- Automatic IP Registration
Contact LinkPOS in order to push the settings to your PAX device. When that is complete touch the BroadPOS app: Vantiv or TSYS or whoever your processor is and it will display the idle screen.
From the idle screen you can touch the top left corner to show the IP address. When the LinkPOS app is running on the iPad it will send a message to the PAX device to display a welcome message.
Initial Setup on the LinkPOS App
Log in and touch the options menu in the upper left corner of the LinkPOS app.
Then select the Processors or PAX button. If there are multiple processors available select the PAX option from the list.
From the PAX selection dialog you can perform various actions
Choose a PAX device to pair with.
Touch Scan and scan the Serial Number on the back of the PAX device. Or enter the number by hand.
Touch the Lookup button to lookup the IP address of the PAX device using the serial number in the Pax Serial Number field. If the lookup function does not return any data then enter the IP address and port that the BroadPOS app is listening on. You can get the IP address by touching the idle screen of the BroadPOS app. The default port is 10009.
Touch the Test/Identify button to display a confirm message on the PAX device. You can use this to make sure the data entered is correct.
Regular Transaction Flow
While you enter orders on the iPad it will display the order on the PAX device like this:
When you tender the order if you have "prompt for tip" enabled then the customer will see this screen with the percentages set up for your store:
Then the customer will be asked to tap/insert/swipe their card or device to fund the transaction
If the card won't swipe or tap you can enter the credit card manually by entering the card number in the "Please Enter Account" input box. Then follow the prompts to enter the rest of the information needed.
Close the Batch
Each PAX device has its own batch and is usually set up to automatically batch in the middle of the night.
You can close the batch at any time using the Close Batch button in the list of devices. If you use full service with tips, make sure you have completed all the tips from the history page on the LinkPOS app on the iPad before closing the batch. If you have not completed the authorizations and close the batch you will lose those transactions and not receive a deposit for them. If this happens you can call the processor and they can re-key the transactions for a fee. You will need to provide them with a list of authorization transactions from the batch that was lost for them to re-key and LinkPOS can provide that list for you.
Show the BroadPOS App Options Menu
Touch the Reset button to dismiss the message box from the PAX device and return the device to the idle screen. From the idle screen you can get to the BroadPOS options page.
Touch all four corners of the idle screen in order from top left, top right, bottom right, and bottom left.
Then the password screen will show up
The default password is the current date with leading zeros like this MMDDYYYY. So an example would be 09042025
Then you can see a list of options.
History
Touch the History item to see a list of the current transactions on the device. You can use this option to see if a card was charged or not. If something goes wrong and cannot be fixed from the LinkPOS app you can go here to see if the card was charged or not. If there is a Sale or a PostAuth in the list with the last four of the card in it then the card was charged. If it is not in the list then the card was not charged. If it is in the list as an Auth then it will not be charged and will fall off after a few days unless it is turned into a sale with a PostAuth.
Getting to the home screen
You can touch Exit to leave the app and get to the home screen. From there you can get to the rest of the apps like the settings app to connect to the wifi.
